Call of Cthulu 6th editionĀ

Call of Cthulhu is an RPG that is very different than a game like Dungeons and Dragons. It doesnt focus on brute strength and fights. It has a lot to do with losing sanity and how that affects you as you encounter horrors. It is based on thr novels and works that were written by H.P. Lovercraft and expanded on heavily by other writers and game creators.

This is a very dark book, focused on horror but also literally as its all in black. No color at all. Which fits the yone but Cthulhu is usally dipicted in green and it think woule have potentially benefited from some color.

The art work itself is nice. Some of thr monster designs remind me of the much earlier AD&D such as in the image below.

Truly an interesting book and an interesting game.

The game uses percentile dice. All the checks use the 2 d10s to determine a percent which below the check you suceed and if its below you fail. You have some modifyers to help determine your success rate.

This chart shows when you success and when you fail. This chart also showsnthe excessive use of black ink used in this book.

This book references otherworks of horror as well as people and othrr historic real world references. This book takes place in the real world. The time period you use is the setting and determines what weapons and technology are avolable and what you can do and use.

This is a very different game than D&D however it is pretty fun. You cannot just jump into this game and play the way you would play d&d or you will die. Often you cant just kill stuff it involves more strategy and roleplaying. Its a fun game and worth a look if you like horror!

Elder Things

The monsters of Call of Cthulu are often mind boggling and horrifying at the same time. Considering that your character meerling glancing at could cause them to go insane. Sanity loss is the main aspect of Call of Cthulu so having this kind of horrifying  creatures makes perfect senese.

The First Doctor Source Book

Today we are going to stray away from dungeons and dragons to another table top rpg.

We shall be talking about the First Doctor Supplement for the game Doctor Who Adventures in Time and Space. This book is fairly recent (2009) unlike the Frist Doctor who was from the 196os.

This book is all in black and white which I felt was dissapointed with. The shownwas bacl and white granted but there could have been some detailing in color or some recolouring done to jazz up the book.

This book is essentially a campaign setting. The setting being that of the first doctor. It has monsters with stats that relate to the televieion episodes.

The book filled with moduals which are just playing the events from episodes.

In the back of the book it has stats for the characters from the show so thay can be playable in the game.
This book is a splat book for a larger game. The game main books seemingly focus on the soft rebooted seasons (doctors 9-). Thats what makes book useful. It exclusiveky has plot, festures and character that equate to the adventures of the first doctor and his companions. I belive they plan to do morenof these (I know for sure they have done up to the third doctor). I like doctor who and rpgs so I hadnto have this book and have some of the other books which ill feature in later posts.
